L'Egypte renverra en Algérie son ambassadeur, rappelé en novembre en pleine crise autour de la qualification pour le Mondial-2010, si elle obtient des compensations pour les dégâts subis par les intérêts égyptiens dans ce pays, a déclaré lundi un responsable gouvernemental.
"Nous ne renverrons pas l'ambassadeur d'Egypte en Algérie s'il n'y a pas d'excuses ou de dédommagements pour les dégâts subis par les entreprises et le peuple égyptien" en Algérie, a déclaré Moufid Chehab, secrétaire d'Etat chargé des Affaires juridiques au journal Chorouq.
Les tensions autour de la qualification pour le Mondial, emportée finalement par l'Algérie, ont été marquées le 12 novembre par l'attaque à coups de pierre d'un bus transportant l'équipe algérienne venue jouer au Caire, au cours de laquelle trois sportifs avaient été blessés.
Le match, deux jours plus tard dans la capitale égyptienne, a été suivi d'incidents violents, et des locaux d'entreprises égyptiennes en Algérie ont été attaqués par des manifestants tandis que certains Egyptiens ont eu leur domicile saccagé.
Des incidents sont également survenus le 18 novembre lors du match d'appui joué à Khartoum, présentés par la presse et les officiels au Caire comme des "agressions" contre les supporteurs égyptiens.
La crise avait pris un tour diplomatique avec des manifestations au Caire devant l'ambassade d'Algérie, et le rappel pour consultations de l'ambassadeur égyptien à Alger le 19 novembre.
Le ministre des Affaires étrangères Ahmed Aboul Gheit a estimé dimanche les dégâts à des dizaines de milliers de dollars, ajoutant que les sociétés égyptiennes visées, dont le groupe de télécommunications Orascom, demanderaient des dommages et intérêts.
"Les sociétés demanderont des dommages et intérêts pour ces dégâts et nous espérons que (...) le gouvernement algérien accèdera (à ces demandes)", a-t-il déclaré selon un communiqué du ministère des Affaires étrangères.
L'Egypte souhaite pouvoir reprendre de bonnes relations avec l'Algérie, a-t-il toutefois poursuivi, déclarant que les deux pays étaient unis "par l'affection et la fraternité".
