Architecture de la maison turque/OrientaleL’architecture Algérienne de l’époque turque était caractérisée par ses cours intérieurs carrés avec une fontaine au milieu. Le carrelage et la faïence étaient décorés de motifs orientaux ou berbères. Si vous avez l’occasion de visiter la casbah d’Alger n’hésitez pas à y aller, des maisons typiques de l’époque ottomane sont encore présentes. Certaines ont étaient rénovés et transformés en musées à l’exemple du Musée National des Arts et Traditions Populaires. Contrairement à la maison Kabyle, la maison turque/Orientale était souvent construite en plusieurs étages, avec plusieurs pièces à chaque étage et des balcons qui donnaient sur la cour principale. Cette configuration permettait aux habitants de la maison de pouvoir se parler où qu’ils soient.
Comme pour la maison Kabyle, la maison Algérienne de l’époque turque possédait des niches, qui servaient à stocker les provisions. Plus décorés que celles des anciennes maisons Kabyles, on retrouve souvent des petites portes qui leur donnaient un aspect de placard. Les portes étaient creusés de formes basiques (triangles, crées …), une décoration qu’on retrouve aujourd’hui encore sur les meubles Algériens.

Les tapis étaient aussi très présents dans la décoration turque/Orientale, au pied des lits pour les chambres ou au milieu des autres pièces comme le salon, la salle de musique ou la salle des femmes. En Algérie, vous aurez un grand choix de tapis car chaque région possède ses propres tapis, vous pourrez même faire votre propre sauce avec des tapis orientaux ou berbères.

Tous les passages (portes, fenêtres, tunnels …) étaient des arcades, parfois décorés de motifs orientaux. Ces arcades à elles seuls peuvent donner à une maison un aspect turque/oriental.

Le cuivre est un métal très utilisé dans la décoration turque/Orientale en Algérie, assiettes, plateaux, tellières et autres ustensiles de cuisine en cuivre étaient symboles de richesse et de luxe. Encore très présent en Algérie, le cuivre est travaillé à la main, décoré par des motifs orientaux et des inscriptions religieuses. La table basse était constituée d’un grand plateau circulaire en cuivre ou les femmes se retrouvaient pour boire le thé.
